Floating Egg

A fun at-home science experiment about density.

Some objects will float in water and others will sink. An egg, for instance, is more dense then regular tap water and will sink. In this experiment we will add salt to the water, adding to the water’s density, and eventually causing the egg to float.

  1. Watch the video for instructions on how to setup this experiment.
  2. Try it yourself at home.
  3. Share results in your journal.

Journal Questions
  1. Why does the egg float when you add salt?
  2. What happens if you add sugar instead of salt?
  3. Does it make a difference if the egg is raw or hard boiled?

Earn badges and qualify for prize drawing by registering and answering journal questions. It's fun and easy!
