It’s not rocket science, but it’s close enough.
Activity Booth
Learn the complexity and different disciplines required to launch a balloon higher than a plane.
The Tech Mavericks will show-off the current status of their project. You can see how the team uses microcontrollers, Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, and more to build a payload that will fly higher than most planes. The will answer your questions on what it’s like to work under the NASA design cycle as they complete their project. You can also see and touch some past projects, even some that have been to space!

Mitchell Community College - Tech Mavericks - High-Altitude Balloon Challenge Team
The Tech Mavericks are Mitchell Community College students that are competing in a High-Altitude Balloon challenge.
The Mitchell Tech Mavericks are a diverse group of students that are participating in the NC Space Grant's High-Altitude Balloon Challenge. The students are designing and building an automated environmental sensing payload that will be released this spring on a small weather balloon. The balloon should ascend to a height of approximately 100,000 feet before returning to Earth to be collected by the team.
