Davidson Lands Conservancy
We conserve natural lands and farm land, raise awareness of the value of conservation, and connect lives to nature.
At Davidson Lands Conservancy, we have four main goals that help guide us in our mission.
Our core mission is permanent land conservation and effective stewardship of that land. Working with landowners who share similar goals, we’re able to protect land with high conservation values against future development while maximizing that land’s value to the ecosystem.
Next we work to preserve & enhance tree canopy. Trees give us life and the very air we breathe. Even if there were no other reasons to appreciate and replenish them, our oxygen supply is a pretty good one. Trees also do a dandy job of cleaning the air of particulates, our key air quality threat to human health. And, the beauty of our canopy largely makes Davidson the attractive and appealing community it is.
We work with area landowners who may be interested in donating or selling property that will add to our trailways and the connectivity of Davidson’s trail network. Ideally, trails and greenways are accompanied by conservation areas to protect corridors so important to water quality, the trail experience, and wildlife habitats.
Scattered throughout the community, wildlife corridors are typically wooded and positioned along small streams. Our DLC program, which works in partnership with Davidson College, uses a scientific approach to identify, map and keep track of key wildlife corridors in Davidson. Permanent conservation isn’t practical because too many different people own the properties, so we concentrate on educating residents and landowners about the value of these corridors. We also show them the best land management practices to support wildlife habitats.
Worlds Of Wonder (WOW)
World of Wonder (WOW) is a free nature discovery program for children with their families – an opportunity for them to explore, discover, and enjoy the wonders of the natural world together. This year-round program has 2 prongs:
- Hands-on activities/nature information at the Davidson Farmer’s Market each Saturday
- Nature outings for children with their families.
