Make A Fizzy Drink

How to make a fizzy drink at home in 30 seconds

This experiment is good because you not only study a chemical process, but get a reward – a glass of refreshing soda!

This activity has been provided by STEAMfest sponsor MEL Science!

Step-by-step instructions

Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda into the glass, add sugar to taste, squeeze a lemon and add water. The soda is ready!

Process description

Lemon juice contains fruit acids. When they react with baking soda, carbon dioxide forms. It dissolves poorly in water, and so it is released in the form of bubbles. So our drink becomes fizzy.

Journal Questions
  1. What kind of drink did you make?
  2. Did different ingredients get different results?

Earn badges and qualify for prize drawing by registering and answering journal questions. It's fun and easy!
